“Cannabinoid” is the name for any substance that interacts with your endocannabinoid system. Within the cannabis plant, there are more than 100 of these compounds that make up the total effect, though we typically only talk of two – CBD and THC. That is, until recently when the CBG, THC-O, and CBN cannabinoids (to name a few) have taken the market by storm.
By all accounts, the recent innovations in cannabis sciences appear to be only the beginning. Every day it seems that a new cannabinoid is hitting shelves and making waves.
With so many different innovations in cannabis, it’s easy to fall behind on what’s coming out. That’s why we wanted to take some time to go over CBN, its effects, uses, and how CBN is different from CBD. After, if you’re interested, we’ll tell you where to find some of the best CBN products on the market.
What is CBN?
Cannabinol (CBN) is a minor cannabinoid that naturally occurs when THC oxidizes. This term refers to the process of THC exposure to oxygen. While it occurs naturally in this form as a transition from THC, producers can create CBN from either CBD or THC.
The CBN cannabinoid benefits that excite people the most are its ability to help with sleep. Stores often market their items as CBN sleep products and it’s obvious that this is the most sought after of the cannabinol effects.
Though it may come from THC, CBN is only mildly intoxicating as opposed to the effects of THC. While it is technically possible to feel a high from CBN, it would take a very large dose and is certainly not the ideal usage of this cannabinoid.
Still, the mild intoxicating factor of it may play a large role in it’s helpfulness.
Most people use CBN for sleep as that is easily the biggest of the CBN cannabinoid benefits. There is much more to it than using cannabinol for sleep, however. Studies have also found it to be useful as an antibacterial, neuroprotectant, anti-inflammatory, and appetite stimulant.
For a cannabinoid with very little research, it has certainly made a splash where it can.
Cannabinol vs. CBD
CBN and CBD contain many of the same characteristics. They are both very useful for sleep, pain relief, and anti-inflammation but CBN sets itself apart from CBD in its potency as a sleep aid.
While CBD can help in its own right when it comes to sleep, CBN appears to be far more effective. This is important because sleep is one of the main reasons people have traditionally sought CBD and cannabis as a whole.
That means this cannabinoid has the possibility of revolutionizing cannabis use for a large portion of users.
Where to find Cannabinol for Sale
With word spreading on the benefits of CBN, products are not hard to come by. Depending on where you live, you may even come across CBN oil or CBN isolate, vapes, edibles, or more in your local gas station.
The important thing to remember with CBN (or all cannabis products for that matter) is that the market currently lacks regulation. That means that the products on the shelves may or may not accurately represent the contents of the packaging.
It’s important to stick with a trusted provider for all your cannabis needs. One of the main things that showcase trustworthiness is if they offer robust reporting.
While it’s unlikely that a CBN product is unsafe, it’s not uncommon for packaging to mislead or outright lie to consumers. If you are ever unsure about a product, there should be a QR code on the back that will take you to the reporting.
If you come across a product that does not have any reports (be it in a QR code, URL on the package, or listed on their website,) you should not purchase it. Without regulation, there’s no way to know for sure that you will actually be getting the cannabinoid you bargained for.
